The Open Structures project is the work of Linnéa Nilsson, who presented her PhD thesis at the beginning of 2016 at The Swedish School of Textiles in Borås Sweden. In her research she explores the relationship between textiles and products in the design process, e.g. by looking at how new textile technologies, such as smart textiles and 3D printed textiles, can come to influence how we design textile products and how we design textiles for products. She explores this subject through a combination of experimental and theoretical work, e.g. using practice-based design projects and observation of design practice. Her educational background is in both textile design and product design and, before starting her doctoral studies, she worked with textile design in products at e.g. Volvo Cars.

For more information on the project, see the paper and dissertation linked to in the Publications section.
